Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much will counselling cost?

I review my prices in February for any changes to be paid in April. My standard rate for counselling in person is £60 and £50 online. I also work from a sliding scale and offer a limited number of concessions for students and those on lower income/with less disposable income

  • How much do therapeutic baking groups/sessions last?

The pricing for these sessions is worked out on a case by case basis due to a variety of factors. Please contact me to discuss quotes further.

  • Do you offer a free consultation?

To begin the process of working together I offer a free 25 minute introductory phone (or video) call/consultation, in this we will explore what you are looking for, what I can offer, and practicalities such as availability. I do not offer a free initial in-person consultation.

  • What happens in my first counselling session?

In our first session we will go through my contract (which I will have sent you a copy of in advance of the session) and answer any questions before signing. I will explain the limits and boundaries of the counselling session and explore with you any preferences for sessions (from therapy modality to sensory input e.g. lights on or off). I will usually check in with how you are feeling being in the session for the first time and then the session can go in whatever direction you need us to go. I can provide structure if needed or allow for more free-flowing work. You are also more than welcome to ‘unmask’ in sessions, bring your own fidget and sensory toys (or use mine), spend time talking about your special interests and hobbies and ask me any questions (it is my job to gently hold any boundaries)

  • How many counselling sessions will I need?

There is no set answer for how many sessions you’ll need. Some people discover after 1-3 sessions they have gotten what they need and/or are not ready for counselling. Generally contracted short-term counselling is considered up to 12 sessions and focuses on a specific issue. Long-term or open ended-counselling can be decided between you and I and reviewed frequently. I generally schedule a structured review every 6-12 sessions; this can last anywhere from 10 minutes to the whole session.

  • How frequent are counselling sessions and therapeutic baking?

I generally work from a weekly or bi-weekly schedule in the first instance to provide structure for you and I. Once a relationship and piece of work is established session frequency can be reviewed and may become more flexible/ad-hoc. I will also consider your needs e.g. if you are a carer or young person when arranging sessions. Some people need shorter gaps to sustain the therapeutic work and relationship (e.g., weekly sessions) others need longer to process the sessions or to ensure the work is financially stable (e.g., bi-weekly). For many, when they are coming towards and ending and/or are better able to cope in-between sessions the frequency of sessions may decrease and may even drop to monthly or ad-hoc sessions.

Therapeutic baking groups generally work on a weekly or bi-weekly timetable. One off therapeutic workshops can be arranged by contacting me directly but do not usually have follow up sessions.

  • How long are counselling and therapeutic baking sessions?

Counselling sessions usually last 50 minutes, this is called a ‘counselling hour’. When working with young people or when sessions are overwhelming we may agree to reduce the length of the session or take breaks during the session.

Therapeutic baking groups usually last 1.5-2 hours however groups and workshops can be condensed to 1 hour in specific circumstances.

  • Where do I work?

I practice counselling in Cardiff city centre in The Practice Rooms, Newport (Rogerstone) and online. My therapeutic baking groups and creative workshops will come to you online or in the surrounding area.
